Rockies 9, Padres 7: Peoria Plays Like Coors

Despite what the final score might imply, today's game was not actually played on the moon.

Boy, did Tyson Ross get roughed up today. In his 4.1 innings of work, he gave up 6 runs on 12 hits. Five of those runs came during a brutal fourth inning, where he served four doubles in a row before recording a single out. The upshot of Ross's start? He also recorded 6 strikeouts without allowing a single walk. Rockies starter Brett Anderson didn't fare a whole lot better, as the Padres hit him for 5 runs (3 earned) in his 6 innings of work. Xavier Nady hit a two-run homer so deep into left field that it nearly reached the All-You-Can-Eat Tent on the concourse. Then, with Alex Castellanos and Nick Hundley on base, Everth Cabrera roped one into right field, stretching it into a triple. So, shaky pitching and impressive offense should be today's story, but they're eclipsed by something that happened before the first pitch: Carlos Quentin was scratched from the lineup. There's still no word on why he didn't start in left field as planned, and in this case, no news is probably not good news. Keep your fingers crossed, folks.

Wonko led the thread in both comments and recs. I'll just chalk that up to the rest of you starting your St. Patrick's Day drinking early.
