A late rally came up just short and our Padres now find themselves looking to salvage the final game of the series.
Tyson Ross represents our last chance against the Diamondbacks in this home seres. The right-hander posted a 2.13 ERA in his first four starts this season, but his last two haven't been as sharp. He surrendered nine runs over 11 1/3 innings in those last two outings, though the Friars were able to scrape together enough offense for a win in San Francisco. He has been solid against the Diamondbacks, though. Last year he went 1-1 with a 1.96 ERA in four appearances (three starts) against Arizona, keeping batters to a .184 average.
Unfortunately, even that may not be enough to escape with a win if the Padres offense continues to look clueless at the plate. They're at the very bottom of the league in batting, with a team .215 average, and runs, collecting just 80 through the first 31 games. Today that offense will go against Wade Miley. The southpaw is coming off a rough start against the Rockies at home, where he coughed up seven runs on ten hits through six innings of work. In nine career starts against the Padres, Miley is 1-6 with a 5.26 ERA.
Tune in at 1:10 PDT to see if Miley's track record against San Diego holds and last night's 9th inning is a harbinger of a resurging offense.
