He's got the power.
They told us Kennys had power, and now Kennys showed us he has power. In his first home game at Target Field, rookie Kennys Vargas hit a three-run home run into right field, and it was a no-doubter. It was Kennys's first home run as a major leaguer, and it gave the Twins the lead in the game and the eventual win.
The Padres first threatened to score in the top of the second inning. With two outs, Twins starter Phil Hughes gave up a single to Yasmani Grandal (a Padre, apparently), followed by a double to Yonder Alonso (also, apparently, a Padre). As Grandal headed for home on Alonso's double, Oswaldo Arcia threw a relay to Brian Dozier, who was able to get it home to Kurt Suzuki just in time for Suzuki to make a great diving play to get the out and end the inning.
The Padres did end up scoring first to take the lead, but it wasn't until the top of the fifth inning. The previously-mentioned Yonder Alonso hit a solo home run off Hughes, but luckily, that was the only damage the Padres inflicted. Kennys Vargas hit his three-run game winner in the bottom of the sixth inning, and there was no more scoring after that.
Glen Perkins gave up two hits in the ninth inning, but got out of the jam to earn his 28th save of the season.
