Yeison Asencio has been a force to be reckoned with since he was promoted to AAA El Paso to take the place of new Padres outfielder Rymer Liriano. Going into Thursday night's game against Nashville, Asencio was 5-6 in a Chihuahuas uniform; he singled twice in two at-bats on Tuesday before adding another single as well as a double and a homer in his first start with the team on Wednesday.

The parallels between Asencio's first start and his second are... well, they're there. In addition to once again being the only El Paso player with a multi-hit game, young Yeison also homered as the Chihuahuas lost. He has now singled in all three games he has appeared in, and homered in both starts. If he were to follow his current patterns -- which, of course, he won't -- one could expect him to go 2-5 with a single, a home run, and 3 RBI in his next game. The single is because he hasn't gone a game without one and the homer is because that's just what happens when he starts. The 3 RBI are because he had 0,1, and 2 -- in that order -- in his first three games. Similarly, his theoretical 2-5 line is because in his first three games he was retired -- once again, in this order -- 0, 1, and 2 times.
Okay, that's totally not going to happen, but I am excited to see what he'll do next. The Chihuahuas take on the Sounds for the last contest of their four-game set at 6:05pm PDT Friday night. Joe Wieland gets the start for El Paso, but that's a whole different post altogether.
