Our Padres will try to rebound from last night's frustrating loss and even up the series in St. Louis this evening. Tyson Ross hopes to continue his fantastic 2014 season, as well as the team's recent surge.
Since the beginning of July, Ross has gone 5-2 with a 1.53 ERA in eight starts. He comes into tonight's matchup having won five straight - a career high - and looking to extend the streak. One of those wins came against this Cardinals team and was Ross' only career start against them. On July 29th, he pitched six solid inning of one-run ball, giving up only four hits and striking out seven. He had a little trouble with his command, however, as he issued five walks that night.
Opposing Ross will be Lance Lynn, who also pitched against Ross in that July matchup. He was the tough-luck loser in that matchup, almost matching Ross' line exactly. He tossed six innings and allowed four hits, but only walked three and struck out six. He gave up two runs, but only one of those was earned. Lynn is coming off a bit of a rough outing in Baltimore, where he allowed three runs on a season-high nine hits in 5 2/3 innings. He still got the win, however, as the Cardinals offense provided him with eight runs of support to give him his first victory in four tries.
After last night, the Cards are riding a three-game winning streak going into tonight, but our Friars will fight to avoid a losing streak and get right back in the win column behind their All Star pitcher. Action gets underway at Busch Stadium at 5:15 PT.
