As I am wont to do from time to time, I decided to peep at Baseball-Reference to see how the other team's players have fared in the past against the Padres starting pitcher du jour. "But small sample size!" "He was a different pitcher then! You can't expect that to mean anything!" Yeah, yeah, I know. These strings of digits might not mean much, but they are things that exist and therefor I'm exercising my right to acknowledge them. Take them with a grain of salt, or the whole shaker for all I care. Your sodium intake isn't any of my business; what do I look like, a doctor?
Marlins vs. Andrew Cashner:
Jeff Baker: 1-1, RBI
Derek Dietrich: 1-2, 2B, 2 RBI, BB
Greg Dobbs: 1-4, HR, RBI
Adeiny Hechavarria: 1-5, 2B
Reed Johnson: 1-2
Garrett Jones: 1-4, 2B, RBI, 2 BB
Jeff Mathis: 0-2
Casey McGehee: 0-2, K
Marcell Ozuna: 1-6
Giancarlo Stanton: 0-4, RBI, 2 BB, 2 K
Along with starting pitcher Jose Fernandez, position players Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Donovan Solano, and Christian Yelich have never faced Cashner.
Wow, those sample sizes are even smaller than I thought they'd be. Oh well, you've got to start somewhere. I'll just be hoping that the first number of each line remains unchanged while the second one grows.
