The Pads locked up the 25-year-old second baseman to the tune of $35 million.
The San Diego Padres have agreed to a five-year, $35 million extension with second baseman Jedd Gyorko, according to our own Chris Cotillo. The deal starts in 2015 and includes a club option for 2020 that is worth $13 million in guaranteed money, but the option can be worth even more due to salary escalators. Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports has the entire salary breakdown:
Jedd Gyorko extension is five years, $35M starting next season. Breakdown: $2M, $4M, $6M, $9M, $13M with $1M buyout on $13M option for 2020.

Gyorko's new contract buys out his remaining pre-arbitration season (2015) and all of his remaining arbitration eligibility. The Padres have bought out one free agent season as well (2019) and have a chance at keeping him for the 2020 season as well.
Gyorko is the sixth Padre to sign a contract extension in recent years, joining Cameron Maybin, Cory Luebke, Carlos Quentin, Nick Hundley, Huston Street, Will Venable and Chris Denorfia. His deal is the fourth largest for a player with between one and two years of service time, trailing only Ryan Braun (Brewers), Andrelton Simmons (Braves) and Anthony Rizzo (Cubs).
Gyorko, 25, is entering his second season in the majors and has shown considerable promise as a power hitter. Last season, Gyorko hit .249 with 26 doubles and 23 home runs in 125 games falling behind onlyRobinson Canoin the home run column for second basemen.
Some adjustment to the major league level was expected, but it appears as though the Padres are pleased with Gyorko's development so far. He is batting just .163/.229/.302 with one homer and seven runs batted in so far this season, but drawing conclusions a sample size of just 48 plate appearances is nearly impossible.
Gyorko finished sixth in NL Rookie of the Year balloting. He faced some tough competition, headlined by Marlins ace Jose Fernandez and Cuban sensation Yasiel Puig.
Buster Olney of ESPN.com was first to report that the two sides agreed to a deal, with Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reporting the length and approximate value.
