It was announced yesterday that Jason Marquis was placed on the 15 day disabled list and Miles Mikolas recalled. Bud Black said that the injury was not sustained by a specific incident but more likely a result of cumulative throwing. He was seen by a Cardinals doctor after throwing 86 pitches in 5 1/3 innings on Friday, but wasn't diagnosed until today.

"Where he is in his career, he knows that this is not a short-term thing," Black said. "He will be out. We don't know exactly how long or the extent of the injury. … I think when the MRI comes back, we can be more specific."
Well the MRI came back and the injury is more serious than they first though and will likely keep Marquis on the DL for much longer than first anticipated. I only play doctor, but I suspect he'll be out for the remainder of the year.
