He's back, everybody.
Jedd Gyorko was on the DL for a week with a cranky ankle but picked up right where he left off in his first game back on Thursday. Gyorko started at his unnatural position of second base and didn't let it distract him. The Mountaineer was flawless in the field and went 3-for-4 for the TuPads, falling a triple shy of the cycle. Of course, falling a triple short of the cycle is no milestone but seven total bases are never something to sneeze at.
Week off? Ain't shook. Upon his return from the disabled list, Jedd Gyorko was inserted by Terry Kennedy into his familiar three-hole. He responded by homering in his first chance, bringing in Andy Parrino. He took a backward K in his second trip up but swung on a bunk pitch to assist Parrino in stealing his fourth base of the season. Gyorko came up again in the fourth inning and smacked a dub to score Parrino once again. He came up again in the sixth and singled the ever-present Parrino to second.
After his return to the field combined with return to form, Gyorko holds a .339 AAA batting average and a .316 overall mark including his time in the pitcher-friendly Texas League. His homer was his 24th all told and 18th with Tucson. Similarly, his double was his 27th of the season and his 23rd in the PCL.
